Heavy rain forecast tomorrow (Wednesday) has seen four flood alerts put in place throughout Bedford Borough.
The Environment Agency’s advice to homeowners is ‘be prepared’ as flooding is possible.
The flooding is expected to affect roads close to the bridges at Harrold, Oakley, Felmersham and Radwell, as well as the Lower and Middle River Great Ouse.
Residents are also advised to avoid using low lying footpaths near ‘local watercourses’ and should avoid contact with flood water.
Storm Christoph is set to bring widespread flooding to many parts of England and the four alerts in Bedford are among 110 issued across northern England, the Midlands and the east.
The message on the Environment Agency’s website said: “Heavy rainfall is forecast on Wednesday 20th January.
“We expect river levels to remain high over the next few days. We are closely monitoring the situation.”
