The former Newnham ward councillor, Hilde Hendrickx, has been selected to stand in the Riverfield by-election for the local Liberal Democrats.

Hilde says her three local priorities are safety for all road users, a green and clean Riverfield Ward and supporting people and communities.

Previously, as a councillor for Newnham Ward, Hilde helped secure additional crossings in Riverfield Drive and opposite Priory Country Park as well as safer parking restrictions, new cycling infrastructure and improvements to the local area.

Hilde said: “I have loved meeting people on the doorstep in the last few weeks. I am committed to working hard day in, day out for the local area, keeping you informed with regular FOCUS leaflets, helping keep our area clean and green, and working closely with residents’ associations and the whole community to get things done for our area.

“If elected – or now on the campaign trail – my door is always open should you need help or if you have a comment, a complaint or an idea for a community initiative.

“Please don’t hesitate to get in touch.”

Safety for all road users

Riverfield ward’s main roads (Riverfield Drive, Barkers Lane and Goldington Road) are busy roads with high traffic volumes and regular problems with speeding. Hilde pledges to advocate for road safety for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers alike with well-maintained roads, footpaths, and cycleways.

A green and clean Riverfield ward

The ward is home to one of Bedford’s prime parks – Priory Country Park. Hilde says she will do all she can to preserve nature in the ward, to get more trees planted and to help keep our river clean.

She will also continue the fight against litter and will keep pressure on Anglian Water to deal with the smells from the sewage treatment plant.

Supporting people and community

Hilde said she is committed to working hard for constituents day in and day out and to keeping residents informed of what’s happening.
