Firefighters tackle field fire in Cranfield and urge motorists to avoid the area

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue (BFRS) has urged motorists to avoid the area while they deal with a large field fire in Cranfield.

The blaze is in an area covering 800m x 800m of standing crop.

Police have shared the fire team’s message, asking people to stay away while firefighters tackle the blaze.

In a statement on Twitter at 3pm, BFRS said: “Currently we have two fire appliances from Kempston in attendance, along with Multi-Role Vehicles from Woburn and Shefford, Water carriers from Kempston and Toddington, a fire appliance from neighbouring Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, and our Drone.

“Firefighters are making good progress in tackling the fire.

“Please avoid the area.”
