Now in its fourth year, the Bedford Independent Everyday Heroes Award, in partnership with The Harpur Trust, recognises people who have made a difference to our Borough and who make Bedford brilliant.
We’ve been highlighting each award category ahead of the closing date for nominations on 31 January 2023.
Today, we have two award in the spotlight uncer the ‘Young Achiever’ category sponsored by Bedford Heights.
To help make sure that young people across Bedford Borough have a chance to stand out, we’ve worked with the team at Bedford Heights to split the young achiever category in two.
Even so, with nominations coming in fast, it’s going to be a tough job for our judges to choose the finalists, who will all be invited to join us at our awards ceremony hosted by Bedford School at the Quarry Theatre at St. Luke’s.
To nominate an everyday hero who deserves to receive the Young Achiever award, please complete the nomination form below by 31 January 2023.
Please remember the nomination must be for activities carried out between January and December 2023.

“We have always sponsored the Young Achiever category and this year there are two age categories because every year we are bowled over by just how many inspiring young people there are doing amazing things right here in Bedford.”
Young Achiever (up to age 13) – sponsored by Bedford Heights
This new award honours an individual aged 13 or under who has achieved over and above the expected. We are looking for young people who show sporting, community or charitable excellence and the positive impact it has on Bedford Borough.

This award honours an individual aged 14 to 21 who has achieved over and above the expected. We are looking for young people who show sporting, community or charitable excellence and the positive impact it has on Bedford Borough.

“Whether they are excelling in sport, raising funds for charity or going above and beyond for their community, the Young Achiever nominees always stand out for their dedication and commitment to their cause,” added Tim.
“As always, we look forward to reviewing all the nominations and then of course the awards evening itself, which will inevitably be both inspiring and humbling for everyone who attends.”
2022 winner: Maddie Axford
Talented hockey star, Maddie Axford, has been progressing on the GB hockey pathway. She was selected in the Women’s Elite Development Programme for Team GB and won gold for the University of Nottingham at the BUCS champs last year.
