Bedford Town’s team is now starting to take shape as their pre-season matches continue and the side continues to gel together, while trialists are still getting a run out.

Tuesday saw them defeat their local rivals from two divisions above, Kettering Town. The games only goal came courtesy of a powerful headed shot from Scott Joseph, his second goal in as many games.

The winning frame of mind continued on Saturday at Arlesey Town. Bedford mixed the team up for this match, giving triallists a run out, and resting players who had taken a larger role in the previous games.

The visitors dominated the game from the off, controlling all areas of the pitch. Even so the opening goal came earlier than might have been expected.

Defender Cade Stevens-Abbey found himself inside the area and dinked his shot over the head of the Arlesey keeper.

Moments later Bedford got their second as Tre Mitford fired home from close range.

Arlesey must have now been fearing an onslaught, as the Eagles continued to dominate the play. Callum Donnelly and Jack Vasey both having shots saved.

The home team struggled to get near the Bedford goal, but when they did, Adam Mead shot wide.

Connor Tomlinson, Bedford’s new young signing ran rings around the Arlesey defence, it’s not difficult to see why he has been given a two year contract with the club.

Also committing and signing a contract is 6ft 5in centre back Derek Ubah, who last season was playing in the Swedish Division Two (level four). Ubah again put in a solid performance in this match and will be one to watch in the forthcoming season.

The second half saw Bedford make changes, Andrew Phillips, Ben Ford, Scott Joseph and Louis Hall amongst those getting a run out in the second half.

The changes meant the second period was a more evenly balanced match, but the visitors never looked like conceding their two goal lead.

Bedford will need to up their game even more on Tuesday as Darren Fergusons Peterborough United come to town for an earlier than usual 19:30 start.

The Eagles had a memorable goalless draw at the Eyrie against the Posh in the first round of the F.A cup in 2001, and they will be looking to rediscover that form for this friendly.

Then on Thursday 25th July in another home fixture, Southern League Premiership side Biggleswade Town come to the Eyrie for a 19:45.kick off.
