The Eagles got another great win on the board in the Southern League Division One Central following a 2-1 away win over Thame United on Saturday. Early goals from Alex Collard and Ryan Blake were enough despite a late goal from Thame to cause a nervy end for the Eagles.

Bedford started well and were ahead within five minutes. Following a corner, Thame couldn’t clear their lines and the ball fell to Lynton Goss who headed the ball back into the danger zone.

This then fell to Alex Collard and somehow with his back to goal, managed to flick the ball past the goalkeeper for the opener.

This goal was followed by more Eagles pressure and another goal came shortly afterwards.

Some good work in midfield between Dominic Morgan-Griffiths and Adam Watkins meant Ryan Blake could comfortably finish past the goalkeeper to double Bedford’s advantage.

The remainder of the first half was mainly Bedford as Thame rarely threatened. The Eagles were the happier of the sides at the break as Bedford led 2-0 at the interval.

The second half was different to the first as Thame pressed for a goal. The home side were looking determined to get back into the game, but Bedford were defending well.

With not long left, Thame got their goal. A ball into the box was headed into the back of the net by Oscar Lucey to get United back into the game.

The Eagles defended well for the rest of the match and got the win at the ASM Stadium. Another great victory for Lee Bircham’s side, but the fixtures keep on coming as Bedford Town travel to Waltham Abbey on Tuesday night.
