Bedford Borough Council has issued details of road closures in Bedford on Saturday (2 March) due to a march taking place between De Parys Avenue and the Embankment.

The march, organised by Bedford Palestinian Solidarity Campaign (PSC), is due to begin at 1pm from the Park Avenue end of De Parys Avenue, arriving at a rally at Castle Mound at 2pm.

Its aim is to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

In an announcement on social media, Bedford Borough Council said it “had been made aware of a number of emergency temporary road closures anticipated to be in operation…from 12pm to 5pm

“These potentially include the following roads: Park Avenue, De Parys Avenue, St Peter’s Street (A4280), The Broadway (A600), Bedford High Street (A600), Mill Street, St Paul’s Square, St Mary’s Street (A600), The Embankment (from A600 to St Mary’s Street to Newnham Road).”

The post did not include any details about the nature of what the council described as “a procession”.

PSC Bedford Chair, Rosie Newbigging said: “Approaching International Women’s Day we want to remind the people of Bedford of the incalculable impact war has on women and children.

“We urge all those in Bedford who care about the horror of what is happening in Gaza to join us on Saturday.”
