Time is running out for Bedfordians to save money with their energy bills with the deadline for the second phase of the Home Upgrade Grant (HUG2) fast approaching.
Residents who do not possess gas central heating have until 30 September to apply for measures via Bedford Borough Council to help save on energy costs in their home such as insulation, solar panels and low carbon heating systems.
Households must have a combined annual income of less than £36,000 (including benefits) or live in a specific postcode area to be eligible to apply for the scheme.
The home must also not be heated through central mains gas and also have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating lower than a ‘D’.
The retrofitting scheme is funded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and managed by the Greater South East Net Zero Hub (GSENZH) as well as Bedford Borough Council.
Councillor Jim Weir, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said, “We are committed to helping residents in Bedford Borough reduce their energy consumption and lower their bills.
“This scheme offers a fantastic opportunity to do just that. I encourage all eligible residents to take advantage of this offer before it’s too late.”
The scheme is due to end in March 2025 with work completed on a first-come, first-serve basis beginning with a property survey to decipher which measures are suitable.
