Sausage dogs and their families will gather at Stuart Memorial Hall in Tempsford this summer for a charity celebration devoted entirely to dachshunds.

The Red Foundation Summer Social will bring together scores of short-legged dogs on Saturday, 29 August, running from 10am until 4pm.

At the heart of the event is a fun dog show featuring six separate classes, designed to give every canine a chance to participate.

Prizes and rosettes will be awarded to the top five dogs in Perfect Puppy, Rescues Rule, Outstanding Oldie, Fabulous Female, Marvellous Male, and Medical Marvel categories.

The top entrants will then compete for the Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show titles.

Rescue moment

Rescue dogs adopted through The Red Foundation will receive a dedicated moment in the spotlight during a group photograph.

Each former resident of the charity attending the event will also be given a special bandana to wear.

Vicky Wilson, of The Red Foundation, said: “Our Summer Social is always a wonderful celebration of everything we love about dachshunds, while raising vital funds to help dogs in need.

“We can’t wait to welcome dachshunds, dachshund lovers and their families for a fun-packed day with something for everyone, from our dog show and activities to expert advice, shopping and some brilliant prizes.

“It is also incredibly special to see so many dogs adopted through The Red Foundation return with their loving families.

“We hope people will book their tickets, bring their sausage dogs and join us for a day devoted to this remarkable little breed.”

Annabel, one of the charity’s behaviourists from ABC Dog Behaviour, will deliver a talk on the connection between pain and behaviour, alongside operating an advice booth.

Drop-in grooming and general health guidance, including ear cleaning and dental care, will be provided by Michelle from Love Hounds Bedford.

For active dogs, Jess from Peak Performance K9 will offer taster sessions in hoopers, scentwork, and tracking.

Stalls and tickets

The venue will host stalls run by independent traders, dachshund specialists, gift companies, dog businesses, and an artist.

Visitors can also take part in a raffle with more than 80 prizes, a tombola, and a spin-the-wheel game where every player wins a prize.

Charli from Waggy Trails Pet Pawtraits & Phodography will provide both pre-booked and drop-in photography sessions.

Food and drink options will be available on site, including an ice cream van and official merchandise from The Red Foundation team.

Free parking is available at Stuart Memorial Hall on Church Street in Tempsford (SG19 2AW).
