River Festival - not cancelled

A fake ‘River Festival’ page on social media has been reported to Facebook, after causing confusion over whether the event is going ahead.

Set up by All Things Bedford, the unauthorised River Festival 2020 page states that the event has been cancelled.

Nothing on the page indicates it is unauthorised, and over 14,000 people have responded to the event.

Despite many large-scale events being cancelled in the coming weeks, events taking place during the summer – including the Olympics, Glastonbury Festival and Bedford’s River Festival – are still going ahead.

A Borough Council spokesperson said, “We are aware of a fake ‘Bedford River Festival 2020’ Facebook event.

“It is extremely unhelpful when unofficial events are created on Facebook and spread misinformation about our events, and we have complained to Facebook about this.

“We would encourage individuals interested in coming to the River Festival and other Council events to follow our official Facebook page, and our Bedford Events page.”
