Carlton C of E Primary School pupils were treated to a delicious end of term picnic, courtesy of Baker Brothers Diamonds, after winning a social media competition.
The Bedford-based jewellers launched the competition giving schools the chance to win a “fantastic feast” for 100 pupils, celebrating the end of term.
Baker Brothers Director, Lizzie McAuley, said: “We wanted to give local schools the chance to win a fun, end-of-year picnic to recognise all the hard work by pupils and their teachers.”
The competition marked the official launch of the Baker Brothers Community Fund, dedicated to supporting local organisations, schools, charities, and good causes.
The family-run business was inundated with entries.
Lizzie said: “This is the first of many ways we plan to provide support, sponsorship and exciting experiences for local schools, clubs and charities.
“It is important to give something back to our local community.”
Gail Highton, Head Teacher, Carlton Primary School, said: “We were thrilled and delighted when we heard we had won this wonderful treat for the children. What a huge boost to morale at the end of an incredibly difficult year.”
She thanked the company for their “lovely gift” and assured them the children would “eat every morsel and have a great finish to the term.”
Baker Brothers furthered their community support by enlisting local caterer Sarah Hibbert, from Sarah’s Eats and Treats, to supply the banquet.
Gail thanked Sarah and said: “She was so kind and accommodating when it came to the children’s food requirements and allergies – nothing was too much trouble. Delicious picnic – fabulous service.”
Sadly, some children missed out due to classes having to isolate. However, individual picnic bags were provided by Sarah and the Baker Brothers team. They were delivered to the pupils’ homes by parent helpers.
