After several setbacks, including delays caused by Covid, building on the new site of the Bedford Greenacre Independent School (BGI) will begin this term.

In partnership with Pellikaan Construction Limited, who will be managing the project, the new school will be built on the outskirts of Bedford at Woodlands Park.

It is due to open in the 2024/25 academic year.

“The plans for the new site are very exciting for our students and we are looking forward to having more playground and sports space around us for them to enjoy, together with modern classrooms that are environmentally friendlier,” said principal Ian Daniel.

“We’re moving from two urban settings to a semi-rural setting, which is spectacular and will provide a really vibrant environment for teaching and learning”.

BGI was formed in May 2021 from the merger of Rushmoor and St Andrew’s Schools. It currently operates over two sites in Bedford on Shakespeare Road and Kimbolton Road.

While the new school brings both these sites under one roof, the site has been purchased with future proofing the school’s offering in mind and is said to include enough space to allow for future expansion in the decades ahead.

Which the school says is important as they have seen an increase in student numbers over the past few years, which they attribute to the “individual care and attention that the staff can provide”.

The school caters for children from reception through to sixth form, as well as a nursery for children from 4-months of age.

A spokesperson added, “as a non-selective independent school, the School has a strong reputation within the community.

“We were judged to be excellent in all areas during our most recent Inspection in 2022, and we prides ourselves on being able to provide superb pastoral support to its students and help them to develop well as individuals.”

In August 2023, the School had its best ever GCSE results, with a record number of Grade 9s achieved across the subject areas.

It has also seen students record good A-level and Cambridge Technical Results since its Sixth Form opened in 2016, which has seen students to go on to university to study a diverse range of subjects, from Law to Fashion, with many said to be “achieving the highest results”.

Bedford Greenacre Independent School will be hosting an open morning on Saturday, 30 September, between 10am and midday where visitors will be able to view plans for the new site.
