Pupils at Bromham CofE Primary School were given star treatment when they returned to school today (Monday).

Children returning to the village primary school for the first time since March walked through a welcoming balloon arch as they embarked on the new academic year.

Attendance on the first day of the new term was 98%, an indication of parents’ trust in the precautions the school has put in place over the summer break.

Head teacher, Gurjit Virk, said, “It is fabulous to have the children back; seeing happy and excited children and parents at the gate was a wonderful experience.

“As I walked around the school today, it was brilliant to see our children actively engaged in their learning and generally delighted to be back to business.

“Everything felt normal again. It also reminded me, being back amongst staff and children, what an amazing school I have the privilege to lead.”

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
