Bromham athlete on the look out for funds after European water polo selection

17-year old, Eve Barnes from Bromham is seeking funding to help her reach the promised land of Manisa in Turkey; the venue for the Under 17 Ladies Water Polo European Championships.

The fifteen strong squad will look to fly the flag in Turkey but after funding for the sport was stripped following the London 2012 Olympic Games, the costs of doing so have become a challenge in the world of water polo.

Eve, a sixth-form student at Bedford Modern School, has spent the last 2 years in the Great British Talent Programme, training every day and competing across the UK and Europe with her water polo squad, whilst juggling her academic studies.

£35,000 needed

Swim England do offer some financial support, but otherwise the burden falls on the athletes themselves with the support of their families.

In order to help raise the mammoth £35,000 that is required to fund the trip, the Under 17 squad are completing a number of challenges, and with just sixty days to go until the European Championships, the challenges are all based on the number sixty.

You can find out more about the challenges by following the squad via their Facebook and Instagram accounts.
