Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service says crews are currently attending an incident in the Nissan Technical Centre, Cranfield.
A spokesperson has said that people should “Please “avoid the area, with those living advised to “keep windows and doors closed”.
Witnesses reported seeing a large cloud of smoke, prompting the fire service to advise people to avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed.
A Nissan spokesperson told the BBC: “All employees that were on site were safely evacuated and we will work with the fire service to understand the cause of the incident.”
Cranfield’s Nissan Technical Centre Europe is one of the company’s key development sites, where vehicle testing and engineering work is carried out.
