Four fire crews are currently battling a blaze on Slade Walk, off Clapham Road, to prevent it spreading to a nearby three-storey property.

Drivers are advised to avoid Clapham Road as Bedfordshire firefighters tackle the blaze that broke out this morning in an auto workshop building on Slade Walk.

In a statement to the Bedford Indepdendent, Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (BFRS) said, “BFRS have been called to reports of a building fire at Slade Walk, Bedford.

“Four of our crews are in attendance currently, along with Bedfordshire Police.

“The fire was reported to at an auto workshop building. Firefighters are currently working to prevent further spread to a three-storey neighbouring property.

“There have been no reports of people involved or evacuation required. However we would urge the public to avoid the area currently and close windows and doors as there may be smoke from the property.”
