Bedford Blues Women enjoyed a stellar season in 2023/24, winning the NC2 Midlands Central Division with an unbeaten record, achieving promotion to the newly-formed NC1 East division as the Women’s team goes from strength to strength since their formation during Covid times in 2020.

All home games will once again take place at Goldington Road as the Blues built on a solid first full season with an exceptional second, winning the league and producing a special cup run in the RFU Junior Cup.

They reached the Round of 16 before succumbing to Hucclecote Ladies 22-15, but they did beat Stamford 17-10 in the previous round, and they are one of seven teams competing in this new division so the Blues have already proven themselves at this level before.

Eddie Rennell’s side will compete in a seven-team league alongside Stamford Women plus Peterborough Ladies, Ipswich Women, Bletchley Women, Welwyn Ladies and Wymondham Wasps Women.

Blues step up

“We’re all excited to challenge ourselves at NC1 level and this is a big opportunity for the team to show how much they’ve developed”, said Head Coach, Eddie Rennell.

“We understand it’s a step up, but we’ve been working hard in pre-season to negate that and everyone in the squad has bought into what we’re trying to achieve.

“Every game will be a challenge but to have the first two at home, with a strong Goldington Road crowd behind us, will only go to ease that transition to a higher level.

“Hopefully everyone in our Blues family continues to get behind the team in 2024/25 and we look forward to seeing everyone through the turnstiles next season.”
