Bedford Blues Women produced a statement victory at Goldington Road in the RFU Junior Cup on Sunday afternoon as they scored six tries in a 40-0 demolition of St Neots.

Just six months ago, St Neots came to Goldington Road and pipped the Blues to the post in a 34-28 victory but the difference in quality between the two sides shone through this time as Bedford secured a safe passage through to Round Two.

It wasn’t long after the opening whistle that the Blues set upon St Neots territory, as Jemma Langton ran through a gap in the visiting defence to score the opening try.

Further scores from Amy Winter and Emma Graham gave Bedford a comfortable lead half way through the first half, and with Lucy Middleton nailing every place kick that came her way, the Blues led 21-0 at half-time.

The second half was more of the same with Izzy Parks adding to the try count before Langton scored her second of the afternoon after a wonderful team move.

The only blemish was a Middleton sin-binning, but her efforts from the tee peg more than made up for that and with Graham also securing her brace of tries late on, the Blues confirmed what was a dominant performance against a side they have struggled against in recent times.

The victory – the Women’s first at Goldington Road since March 2022 – puts them into the hat for the next round of the RFU Junior Cup before a tough test against a strong Milton Keynes side next weekend.

That game is part of a Bedford Blues double header at Goldington Road as the Men host Leicester Tigers in the final round of Premiership Cup fixtures before the Women host MK on Sunday.

Tickets for both games can be bought here.
