Blossoms are ahem, blooming on the gig circuit at the moment headlining around our isle plus having respectable support slots for Inspiral Carpets & The Charlatans.
The band are:
Tom Ogden – Voice/Guitar.
Charlie Salt – Bass/BV’s.
Josh Dewhurst – Lead Guitar/Auxiliary Percussion.
Joe Donovan – Drums. Myles ‘the plant’ Kellock – Keyboards/BV’s.
Good sturdy northern names there. All the way from Stockport, The roll necked sweatered troop describe their sound as ‘Ethereal Nostalgic Sonance’ (we deciphered that as swirly 60s psych-pop).
We spoke to the lads prior to the Esquires gig….
Been to Bedford before?No, but very close. Lost a bag at Newport Pagnell services (There’s a Smiths lyric in there). I’d like to keep with the irony in saying we were travelling in a Bedford Van, now that would be spooky. Anything we need to know before we pay you a visit?(Check Lost & Found for cocktails, The Bear?)How was Inspirals’ support?Fantastic. Extremely accommodating and a great opportunity to pick up a few more fans, extend the expanding fanbase you know. This is how it feels to be a support band.Any anecdotes?From the Inspirals tour? A few, undisclosed unfortunately. For a bunch of ageing Saddleworth boys, they sure know how to host an after party!Inspirations?From George Bailey to Roy Cropper and Hayley. Everything in between (Within reason).Is there a master plan?Master plan sounds a little rich, the blueprints have most definitely been drawn up for the not-so-distant future. We’ve been water boarded and sworn to secrecy on any information, apologies…Best gig venue/town to date?We’re big architecture enthusiasts/nerds and love a good old fashioned picture house conversion, something that can tell a story. There’s quite a few on our clipboard including, Southampton Guildhall and Carlisle Brickyard. Very much looking forward to your place, of course.What’s in a name ? Why the Blossoms ?*Blossoms, cheers. An easy mistake to make. The name derives from the infamous Stockfordian watering hole ‘The Blossoms’ in which Jack Bruce/Ginger Baker (Pre-Cream) once pinched a piano, wheeled it over to a nearby venue and played acoustically, due to a heavy power cut! The name was uncannily suggested twice in one week to Joe (Drums). Once by Tom (Vocals) and secondly by Charlie (Bass) – I’d use the mystic ball emoji here if I could.Why Myles ‘The Plant’ Kellock ?He’s big on his horticulture, owns a large variety of cacti and regularly tends to his nearby allotment. Each to their own hey?How long have you been together?Blossoms were initially conceived as a three piece until Josh (Guitar) and Myles ‘The Plant’ Kellock (Keys), blew in on the Volcanic Ash Cloud – Myles can strangely speak Nordic too.How did you meet ?The five of us first crossed musical swords at a local hotel where we were all playing on the same bill in different bands. It was fate… or the Red Stripe.Favourite Books ?Everyone wants Holden Caulfield’s Deerstalker, Toru Watanabe’s romance and the escapism of Esther Greenwood. Enough to get where you want to be?Favourite cheese ? (If indeed any)Gorgonzola. Didn’t he play for Chelsea once?
