The Bedford Tug of War Ladies Team once again struck national gold at the weekend with three first place medals and a silver in a successful Outdoor National Championships in Devon.

Gold medals in the 520kg, 540kg and 560kg competitions now see the Bedford side go on to represent England in the World Championships in Germany where they will look to once again win medals and cement their status as one of the world’s best.

Those World Championships take place from 5 to 8 September at the Kunsthalle in Mannheim.

The most impressive performance of the weekend came in the 560kg weight class as Bedford secured gold over Melton Mowbray despite being 20kg short in the weights.

They repeated the feat with victory over the same opponents in the 540kg, while the Bedfordians defeated The Army in the 520kg to secure their third gold of the meeting.

Melton Mowbray were able to stop the Bedford juggernaut eventually as they managed to pull their way to gold in the 500kg class, leaving Bedford to take silver.
