Bedford’s pop-up Poppy Shop remembers those who made the ultimate sacrifice

A temporary Poppy Shop has opened again in Bedford’s Harpur Shopping Centre, helping to raise much needed funds for the Royal British Legion.

Bedford is just one of a few town’s to boast a Royal British Legion pop-up poppy shop.

Next door to Toni & Guy salon in the Horne Lane Mall it will be open until 5:30pm on Saturday 10th November.

Manager Janie Vee and her team of volunteers have decorated the shop in beautiful tribute to the men and women who have served in the armed forces.

Each year The Poppy Appeal raises funds to support ex-service men and women, whatever their background.

Purchasing a poppy helps raise cash while giving people a chance to pay tribute to family members who gave their lives or served during the two world wars and every conflict since.

And as Janie Vee told us in the video below, the Bedford Poppy shop is much more than just a place to buy a poppy.

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
