Bedford’s ‘Blues Foundation’ launches first project

The new charitable arm of Bedford Blues Rugby Club, Blues Foundation, are launching their first project as they seek to provide support for the most vulnerable in the community at this challenging time.

They will be promoting a fundraising campaign called ‘Run, Row, Ride’, planned to generate proceeds in support of meals for the vulnerable, impacted by the coronavirus crisis in Bedfordshire.

Blues Foundation are setting a minimum target of £1,000 which will allow them to prepare and deliver meals with Blues’ catering partners, Portfolio Events.

The fundraising challenge is to either run 3km (and donate £3), row 6km (and donate £6) or ride 9km (and donate £9).

If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, why not try a ‘mini-triathlon’ and attempt all three of the challenges, raising even more valuable funds for a worthwhile cause.

Once you have completed any of the challenges, we want you to post a photo on social media, tag Blues Foundation in them so they can share your contributions, then tag five friends to get them to join in too, using #runrowride #bluesfoundation #bedfordshiremeals.

Don’t forget to follow Blues Foundation on social media to find out first about their other upcoming projects. You can find them on TwitterFacebookInstagram and LinkedIn.

Blues Foundation Manager, Tom Harwood said: “We are desperate to join the efforts to support people in Bedfordshire throughout this current crisis.

“Using fitness challenges is a great way to keep physically healthy and support your own mental health during this difficult time.

“This will add huge value to our local area and benefit so many people.”

The initiative brings together Blues Foundation; Portfolio Events, who will supply the meals at lower than cost price with every pound raised resulting in a meal for the vulnerable, and the new High Sheriff of Bedfordshire, Sue Lousada.

Commenting on the project, the High Sheriff added: “I’m very grateful to both Blues Foundation and Portfolio Events for supporting those in need in our community.

“It is an amazing collaboration, thank you and good luck.”

Blues Foundation will also be working with various charities, including YMCA Bedfordshire, as a vehicle to reach the vulnerable, both in Bedford and Luton.

We’re now appealing for donations and pledges to help us deliver these food packages to those who need them most throughout Bedfordshire.
