Bedford Borough Council launched new move-out checklists to help local students and landlords tackle end-of-term waste this summer.
Every year, departing tenants leave piles of unwanted rubbish and furniture on streets and in front gardens.

Failing to handle household waste properly can land Bedfordians with a £600 fixed penalty notice.
If anyone dumps items on the street or next to public bins, the fine rises to £1,000.
To avoid penalties, local people can take extra waste to the Household Waste Recycling Centre on Barker’s Lane.
The council also runs a pre-bookable bulky waste collection service for larger items like furniture and appliances.
Alternatively, departing students can donate usable clothes, kitchenware, and furniture to local charities.
