The global fitness fundraising event Battle Cancer came to Bedford recently with a team at Core Performance Gym raising almost £6,000 for the charity Battle Cancer Program.
While the main event takes place in London, on Saturday, 14 September Core Performance held a local event to help encourage more people to take part, and the plan worked with 54 people of all abilities turning up to complete a gruelling sponsored workout.

Teams of four had to work together to get through four 12-minute intense workouts every hour, with half of each workout having synchronised moves.
Stopping at any point or getting out of sync incurred a points penalty, which created a friendly and fun competitive element.
The team to top the leaderboard was Plod Squad (Oli, Phoebe, Luke and friend). Second on the podium was the Come Back Queens (Emma, Jo, Rayner and Rob) and third was CFA to CFB (Lucy, Jason, Lucy and Jez)
It wasn’t just about the workouts though, family and friends came down to support and also enjoy the street food vans, cake sale, DJ, face painting and raffle.

We are all affected by cancer
At the last count, the fundraising total stood at £5.6k with more still being added and an additional £368 from the raffle.
Jon Wells, owner of Core Performance who organised the event with his team said: “We are all affected by cancer, either directly or indirectly, so we wanted to host a fun event to bring awareness and fundraise.
“Each team choose their cancer charity to make it personal to them. I am not sure everyone enjoyed the six minutes of synchronised Burpees but I know, as I took part, the encouragement of everyone got us through them.
“I am so grateful to everyone who organised and helped on the day and to all the participants as it was such an uplifting day”
Battle Cancer is a global fitness fundraising event series that unites people to fight cancer. It launched in Manchester in 2017 and has grown globally and raised over £2.4millon so far.
