The Beds and Northants MS Therapy Centre has given a “huge thank you” to music fans who attended this summer’s Bedford Park Concerts series after they received a total of £8750 in donations.

For two weekends in June and July, Bedford Park played host to headliner sets from The Jacksons, Sting, West End Proms, Scooter, George Ezra and Ministry of Sound Classical.

At all six of the concerts, over 120 volunteers welcomed concertgoers through the entrance gates collecting donations for the therapy centre on Barkers Lane from the generous general public attending the shows.

The centre on Barkers Lane provides a range of therapies and other support to people living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

The charity receives no government or NHS funding and is entirely reliant on its fundraising efforts and the generosity of the local community, local businesses, and charitable trusts for the funds they need to keep the Centre running.

Providing the services costs the charity around £1,000 a day, so the almost £9,000 will provide essential support to the local MS community and make a vital positive impact on the lives of many.

“Collecting donations at the Bedford Park Concerts required a small army of volunteers who were amazing as always. A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered – we couldn’t have done it without you,” said fundraising manager Carl Field.

“The photos look like we’re having a great time, and we did, but everyone also worked extremely hard, with some volunteers manning the gates for 3-4 hours straight.

“It was a fabulous, uplifting experience and the generosity of those attending who donated at the concerts this year was overwhelming. We can’t wait for next year.”

This was the first year the Bedford Park Concert Series was produced by Cuffe and Taylor, who are part of Live Nation.

Peter Taylor added, “The support for our charity partners never fails to impress me and I thank every single person who took the time to make a donation.

“I’m delighted at the amount of funds raised for the MS Therapy Centre who can use these funds to continue their vital work supporting those affected by MS in the local Bedford community.”

In September 2023 the Beds and Northants MS Therapy Centre are starting a six-month trial offering support to people living with Parkinson’s. These initiatives will require additional funding but will bring benefits to more of the community.
