Bedford Modern School’s Jessica Read to represent Great Britain

Jessica Read BMS

Year 12 Bedford Modern School student, Jessica Read, is among the 33 rowers selected to represent Great Britain at the Munich Junior Regatta on 4-5 May 2019.

This annual event takes place on the Olympic Regatta Course in Munich and is the leading European high-performance regatta for junior rowers, attracting more than 1,000 participants from 15 countries each year.

BMS Director of Rowing, Mark Bavington, said: “Jess has produced an incredible set of results this year to become one of the best female junior scullers in the country.

“It is exceptionally pleasing to see a home-grown talent come through our Year 9 rowing programme to competing in a Team GB crew.

“Jess is still only in Year 12, the sky is the limit to what she can achieve and every member of BMSBC will be supporting her along the way.”

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
