Bedford’s elected Conservative Mayor, Tom Wootton, has invited the new MP for Mid Bedfordshire, Alistair Strathern to Borough Hall following the Labour candidate’s victory.

While acknowledging that the results were “disappointing for the Conservative Party,” Mayor Wootton congratulated Alistair Strathern MP and extended an offer to work with him on behalf of the Borough’s residents.

“What residents want to see are politicians working together collaboratively and constructively,” he said.

“Not sour grapes, finger-wagging, and misdirection without any solutions.

“So, on behalf of Bedford Borough Council, I would like to invite the new Mid Bedfordshire MP to Borough Hall to discuss a range of issues and plans.”

He said that among the topics for discussion would be the Conservative-approved £9m funding package to secure a GP surgery in Wixams and other priority areas.

“I look forward to working constructively with the new Mid Bedfordshire MP to deliver for all our residents,” said the Mayor.
