Life Science Group (LSG) of Bedford have been shortlisted for the Medilink Midlands Business Awards 2022.

LSG are finalists in the ‘Partnership between Academia and Business’ category.

They partnered with Coventry University (Centre of Sport, Exercise and Life Sciences) for a three-year ‘Knowledge Transfer Partnership’ (KTP) project.

Jenny Murray, Managing Director, Life Science Group Ltd, said they were, “delighted to be shortlisted for this prestigious award.”

She thanked Coventry University for their “valuable contribution” and said the shared learning would benefit the whole Life Science industry as well as the LSG and university.

LSG developed a “novel cell medium product” (CellShip~) for the joint project. This allows cells to be transported at ambient temperatures instead of using expensive cryopreservation techniques such as dry ice and liquid nitrogen.

Jenny said: “The environmental impacts of transporting cells globally, without the need for cryopreservation and transport are enormous.”

She added the reduction in “cold chain costs of delivering personalised medicine” would have an enormous impact on the worldwide availability of Cell and Gene therapies.

This award recognises excellence in companies at the leading edge of the Life Sciences Sector.

It goes to “the company who demonstrate how their collaboration/partnership has or will enhance current service delivery or create new ways of delivering healthcare.”

The ceremony takes place at the Nottingham Crowne Plaza on 27 January 2022

LSG are one of the UK’s leading suppliers of life science research solutions.

During the pandemic they developed new technology with the University of Bedfordshire to improve speed and safety in Coronavirus testing.
