Bedford Hospital confirms theft of hand sanitiser from wards

The Bedford Independent has learned that hand sanitisers have been stolen from wards at Bedford Hospital.

It comes after shop shelves have been cleared of similar items and stolen NHS hand sanitisers have been seen for sale on eBay.

Hand gel is a vital defence in hospitals against the spread of infections and the theft could put vulnerable patients at risk.

“Bedford Hospital NHS Trust can confirm that we are aware of this incident and taking all relevant action and subsequent precautions to ensure this isn’t repeated,” said a hospital spokesperson.

“In light of the current activity and concerns around the coronavirus (COVID-19) Infection, we would like to reassure patients and the local public that the local NHS is fully equipped to respond to infectious outbreaks that can occur.”
