The Ladies Over 35’s landed the much-coveted Tier 2 Investec Masters Title at the weekend with a 3-1 victory against Timperley from Greater Manchester.

Despite a nervous start, where Timperley took a 5th minute lead via a penalty corner, Bedford hit back almost immediately with a penalty corner of their own; both teams on the scoreboard after a mere eight minutes.

It was Katherine Winger who converted the chance, cancelling out their opponents early opener with a swift and confident move.

Bedford however were put under pressure time and time again by their impressive opponents, Timperley denied by keeper Kerri Sturman on three separate occasions.

Bedford took the lead for the first time in the match, Kate Costin snapping up a chance presented to her by Andrea Mason, giving Bedford a 2-1 half-time lead.

It was nip and tuck for the majority of the second half, neither team able to penetrate the other’s defence, however, with four minutes left, Bedford took a huge stride towards the title with their third goal.

Costin and Kelly Bingham broke away as Timperley pushed forward in search for an equaliser, with Bingham squaring the ball to Costin for her second goal, and an unassailable 3-1 lead.

The victory seals a successful season for the side, but focus turns to the new campaign with fixtures coming thick and fast for the club with winter approaching.

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.
