A four-week programme of ‘Back to Hockey’ has brought an influx of new players to Bedford Hockey Club.
The sessions, run by qualified club coaches, and supported by existing members, from across the club’s 14 senior squads, drew in over 50 participants, both male and female, and spanning ages from 12 upwards.

Some of those who joined were complete hockey novices. Many were returning to the game after years away, and others who were new to the area were seeking a club to connect with.
There were also a number who have previously been participating in the club’s highly successful Walking Hockey and are now stepping up to faster-paced play.

Others were returning from injury, and some, already players in the club’s Development squads or who are transitioning from juniors to seniors, came to learn new skills and build confidence.
Those attending were full of enthusiasm. Improvement in dexterity across the four weeks was displayed by all participating in the fun and enjoyable sessions.
A significant number have already signed up to play hockey at Bedford this season.
The sessions were timely, with preseason training now commencing, enabling all those wishing to continue to transfer straight to the appropriate level of club training.
New junior, youth and senior members are always welcome.

Sunday juniors have age-appropriate coaching up to Under-12s, Monday evening youth hockey caters for 14 to 18 years of ages, and there are seven men’s and seven women’s senior teams, from Development level to National League.
The club also has a thriving Masters’ section, competing in England Hockey’s National Championships, as well as the all-inclusive Walking Hockey.
