As we reported last week, five charities from Bedford Borough were recipients of £1,000 Movement for Good awards, after being nominated by the public.
One of the charities, Bedford Foodbank, has described how honoured they felt to have been nominated for the award.
And as demand for their services has increased by over a third in the last few months, the donation couldn’t have come at a better time.
Sarah Broughton, Bedford Foodbank project manager, said, “Bedford Foodbank is delighted and honoured to receive this year’s Movement for Good awards.
“We have seen a 39% increase in our numbers in the last few months and this money will enable us to continue feeding people who are experiencing food poverty during the Covid19 crisis.
“Everyone who uses Bedford Foodbank will receive a nutritionally balanced food parcel to feed the whole household, alongside the food parcels we are also able to give out toiletries and cleaning products.”
The Movement for Good awards, set up by specialist insurer Ecclesiastical, have seen a total of £1million given to charities across the UK.
Members of the public were invited to nominate causes close to their hearts, with 500 awards of £1,000 available for donation.
