Crews used a hose reel and backpack sprayers to put out the fire before using a thermal imaging camera to check the ground for hotspots. The damage spread over half the football pitches.
Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the cause of the fire was deliberate.
Safety warnings
The incident in the park follows earlier warnings urging Bedfordians to take care this summer, as the fire service warned of a very high risk of wildfires.
