Two graphic design students at Bedford College have been recognised for a colour-coded hanger system that shows fashion fans how environmentally friendly an item of clothing is.
Selected from over 1,000 entries from universities and art colleges around the world, Ellie Di Carlo and Konrad Konopka, were highly commended in the Graphic Design category of the international Creative Conscience Awards.
Higher National Certificate (HNC) students Ellie and Konrad worked as a team to develop their Green Hanger Movement idea, to influence the public’s shopping habits when buying fashion.
The system uses colour-coded hangers to confirm a garment’s sustainability credentials.
24-year-old Ellie, who is from Kempston hopes to progress on to a degree in design at the College.
Konrad, who is 19 and from Clapham, started as student at the college at the age of 16.
They’ve both now completed their HNCs, and are starting on the 12-month Higher National Diploma (HND) course.
This is the second time Graphic Design students from The Bedford College Group’s South Bank Arts Centre have received a Creative Conscience Award.
Advanced Practitioner Jeffrey Tribe says: “Our students continue to make headway and stand out against increasingly fierce competition.”
Creative Conscience is a global creative community and not-for-profit organisation that believes creative thinking and innovation can make positive change.
The charity aims to empower, mentor and reward members of the creative community to use their talent for positive social and environmental impact.
