A selection of the #BedfordBookDrop goodies...

Award-winning independent children’s bookshop, Rogan’s Books, is launching its annual book giveaway today.

The #BedfordBookDrop giveaway will take place on Saturday 18 January, with all details being announced this morning on Rogan’s Books’ social media channels.

Last year, Rogan’s little helpers hid books around the town, for people to find.

“Instead of dropping them in outside locations – due to potential inclement weather, and to be fair the possibility of getting a £75 fine – we have decided to partner up with some other indies, in this case coffee shops,” said shop manager, James Cross.

“During the week, we are taking approximately 15 books each to Vanilla Tree on St Cuthbert’s Street, Fay’s at Mill Street and Made In Bedford at Number 13 (St Paul’s Square), so their customers can help themselves to a free book.”

Pick up a book and a Portuguese tart at Vanilla Tree…

There will be books suitable for children and grown-ups and all are ‘proofs’ which are advance copies sent to bookshops by publishers before release.

“Proof copies can’t be sold or profited from, so it seems a shame just to recycle them,” said James. “We like to give back, and in this way it might just help our our natural buddies, the coffee shop – after all what goes better with coffee and cake than a good book!

Happy hunting…

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
