A groundbreaking live music performance that blends film scores, holographic wizardry, and virtuoso musicianship is coming to Bedford Corn Exchange this summer, thanks to three local musicians.
Hanja Bantock, Dom Childs and Bjorn Bantock, founders of Supernova Spectaculars, say that their new live show promises to redefine live film music performance and we can’t wait to see it on 30 August.
This spectacle is described as a kaleidoscopic blend of sci-fi and space-themed film scores, a mind-bending 3D holographic lightshow, alongside the virtuosic flair of the UK’s finest musicians, brought to life by the London Cinematic Orchestra.
Supernova Spectaculars will take audiences at Bedford Corn Exchange on an immersive journey through iconic soundtracks from cinematic blockbusters such as Star Wars, Interstellar, Minority Report, Star Trek, and Independence Day.
Far removed from traditional orchestral concerts, this new production is an eruption of special effects — flashing lights, pulsating strobes, and laser beams that dance through the air, creating a visual and auditory feast for the senses.
“What sets Supernova Spectaculars apart is the ambition to blend music, light, and technology in a way that feels entirely new,” says Hanja.
“We’re delighted to have visual designer extraordinaire Gerred Blyth working with us, known for his work with the band Public Service Broadcasting. The visual element of this show is groundbreaking and designed to take your breath away.
“Imagine listening to a live performance of music from War of the Worlds whilst in front of your eyes are 10 metre tall three-dimensional aliens hovering in mid air!”
This cosmic adventure is designed to welcome all, from seasoned concert-goers to wide-eyed newcomers, with an atmosphere more akin to a pulsating rock or pop gig than a formal classical affair.
The show’s commitment to excellence shines through its stellar lineup, featuring top-tier UK talents like trumpeter Mike Lovatt, whose sound has graced countless film scores, adding a golden thread of authenticity to the performance.
Audience members will be encouraged to capture the magic, with photos and videos permitted in the hope that they will be shared widely on social media to spread the word about the spectacle.

Supernova Spectaculars takes place at Bedford Corn Exchange on Saturday, 30 August at 3.30pm and 7.30pm. Tickets are £27 for adults, £19 for under-16s and £80 for a family of four.
