Another blow to Bedford town centre as Debenhams faces administration ‘as early as next week’

The Bedford store is set to close

Shareholders of the struggling department store chain, Debenhams, could appoint administrators in the next week, according to a report by Sky News.

The chain has closed 142 of its stores amid the coronavirus crisis and the majority of its staff have been furloughed.

The Bedford branch has avoided closure during recent culls of under-performing stores.

Sky News reported that KPMG, the accountancy firm which handled Beales’ administration,  is on standby to handle the process.
