Runners of all ages were out in force through Wixams at the end of May, as the town celebrated its annual community fun run.
And with the event raising money for local causes, community groups can now apply for grants of up to £100, garnered from the proceeds of the event.
The Wixams Runners Community 5km Run took place in Wixams Town Park on Sunday, 31 May, with the junior Ginger Cow Kids’ Fun Run for children aged 11 and under following swiftly after.
The sell-out event was sponsored by Urban and Civic, with every 5k finisher walking away with a bespoke medal, while younger finishers were given a Ginger Cow souvenir water bottle.
Applications now open
As well as providing fun for families and aspiring athletes, the event backs local causes.
Last year, Wixams Lego Club, the Brownies and a domestic abuse charity were the beneficiaries of a £50 grant, but due to the ever-growing popularity of the event, that grant has risen to £100.
Local community groups are now being invited to apply, and can do so via the application form here.
Angela Barrington, who organises the Fun Run with Adrian Price, said: “The event went brilliantly and we were so lucky with the weather.
“We’re grateful to our sponsors, and the medals provided by Urban and Civic were really well received. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event.”
