A Bedford community organisation has secured £10,000 in government funding to support its work bringing people together and supporting young people.
Faith in Queen’s Park has received the grant through the Government’s Common Ground Award, part of a £2 million national programme supporting more than 200 grassroots organisations.
Funding for local projects
The funding will allow the group to expand its activities, improve facilities and reach more residents across Bedford.
It will support sports and youth empowerment programmes, helping to keep activities such as basketball, tennis and cricket affordable.
The grant will also support improvements to cricket facilities at Biddenham Upper School, cover running costs, and provide equipment.
Abid Hussain, trustee of Faith in Queen’s Park, said the funding would help the organisation reach more young people.
“This funding will make a real difference to the young people we support,” he said.
“It allows us to keep our sports and Youth Empowerment activities affordable, upgrade our cricket facilities, and provide the equipment needed to ensure every young person can take part.
“By reducing cost barriers, we can reach more participants and continue building confidence, skills and stronger community connections.”
National scheme
The Common Ground Award is designed to reduce social isolation and strengthen connections within communities.
Projects funded through the programme include community hubs, sports initiatives and cultural activities aimed at improving community cohesion.
Mohammad Yasin, MP for Bedford and Kempston (Labour), welcomed the funding. “I am delighted that Faith in Queen’s Park has secured this funding,” he said.
“Their work plays a vital role in bringing people together across Bedford, creating opportunities for connection and strengthening our community.”
