It’s the day many students across Bedford Borough have been waiting for: AS-level, A-level and T-level results day 2025. We’ll be bringing the latest exam results news from schools across the Borough as soon as it comes in.
Nationally, the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), says a record number of 18-year-olds have secured a place at their first choice of university. Overall, 82% of offer-holders have successfully got into their first choice.
The BBC says that’s the same proportion as last year, but there are more 18-year-olds this year. This means around 226,580 18-year-olds got into their first, or “firm”, choice – up from 216,750 last year.
When applying for university through UCAS, students mark one institution as their first or firm choice and one as their second, or “insurance”.
The head of UCAS predicted last week that a record number of 18-year-olds would get into their first choice – even if they narrowly missed their grades.
Dr Jo Saxton said universities were keen to enrol UK undergraduates this year because there was more “uncertainty” around international student numbers.

Bedford Sixth Form
A-level students at The Bedford Sixth Form are celebrating today after the college recorded a 93.8% pass rate – a 2.8% increase on last year – with nearly a third of all grades (29%) awarded at A*–B.
Students at the Bromham Road campus achieved a 100% pass rate in a wide range of subjects including Ancient History, Art, Graphics, Photography, Textiles, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Classics, Computer Science, Drama, Economics, English Language, English Literature, Film, French and Further Maths.
Principal of Sixth Forms at The Bedford College Group, Kathryn Brindley Edwards, said the results were a credit to the students and staff alike.
“These results reflect our students’ talent, determination, and the exceptional support they receive from our staff,” she said.
Students are now heading off to universities across the UK, including Exeter, Birmingham, Leeds, York, Cardiff, Warwick, and Sheffield, where they will be studying subjects such as Aerospace Engineering, Pharmacy, Computer Science, and Midwifery.
Bedford and Kempston MP, Mohammed Yasin (Labour), congratulated the students: “A huge well done to all Bedford students on your A-level results today. Whatever’s on the page, you’ve overcome an enormous amount of pressure, and that’s worth celebrating.
“Whether you’re off to university, an apprenticeship, employment or travelling, I hope you are enjoying a well-deserved break from studying and wish you every success for the future.”
Bedford Greenacre Independent School
Students and staff at Bedford Greenacre Independent School are celebrating this year’s A-level and vocational results, with many students exceeding expectations and securing places at top universities.
Head of Sixth Form, Richard Woodward, praised the cohort’s achievements, highlighting the school’s personalised approach to teaching and its focus on individual progress.
“Our small class sizes allow us to focus on each student as an individual,” he said. “These results are the direct consequence of their immense effort and the unwavering support of our dedicated staff.”
Among this year’s successes:
- 100% of Biology students achieved grades A–B
- All students taking Design Technology were awarded an A*
- In Art, every student received a grade between A* and C
Students on the Cambridge Technical Business course also achieved excellent vocational outcomes, demonstrating strong practical and theoretical knowledge
One standout student achieved A*AA, securing a place at the University of Exeter to study Business Management.
“These results reflect the breadth of talent within our Sixth Form,” added Mr Woodward.
“From students who have surpassed their own expectations to those who have achieved top grades, we are proud of every one of them and wish them well for the next stage in their journey.”
Sharnbrook Academy
Sharnbrook Academy sixth formers are celebrating today after receiving another strong set of A-level results, with students securing places at top universities, apprenticeships and jobs across the UK.
The school, which received an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating earlier this year, praised the resilience and dedication of its Year 13 cohort.
Jackie Hankins, Head of Sixth Form, said: “The results achieved today are a testament to our students’ dedication, resilience and academic excellence. It has been a genuine pleasure to work alongside them, and I have no doubt they will go on to accomplish great things.”
Among this year’s top performers:
- Marco Faria achieved four A* grades and will study Engineering at university
- Saachi Joshi (three As) and Lauren Middleton (three As) are both heading to the University of Oxford to study Medicine and Law respectively
- Miles Thompson earned three A*s and an A, and will study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bristol
- Rachel Burns Gordon (two A*s and an A) will study Biomedical Science at the University of York
- Nihal Rayabharapu (three As) is heading to UEA to study Medicine
- George Warren (two As and a C) has secured a graduate apprenticeship with global design firm AECOM
Special recognition was given to students who joined Sharnbrook Academy from Ukraine in Year 10 and achieved excellent results:
- Risa White: A*, A, B, B
- Sofiia Yarema: A*, A, A, C

Mark Rutherford
Mark Rutherford School has praised its students’ “hard work, resilience and dedication” after another strong year of A-level results.
The 2025 cohort achieved impressive outcomes across both academic and vocational subjects, with school leaders highlighting significant value-added progress and outstanding personal achievement.
Top-performing subjects this year included French, Spanish, Biology, Sport, Drama, Geography, Dance, Performing Arts, Physics, Criminology, History, ICT, Art, English Language, English Literature, Photography and Computing.
Director of Sixth Form, Ms Anna Vallance, said the results reflected the commitment of both students and staff.
“We are incredibly proud of our students’ outcomes and the outstanding results they have achieved this year,” she said, “These results are testament to their hard work, resilience and the unwavering support of our dedicated staff.

The school says this year’s results reinforce its aim to provide a broad and inclusive curriculum that supports every learner’s goals, whether academic or vocational.
Bedford Academy
Staff and students at Bedford Academy are celebrating a record-breaking set of A-level results this year, with the school reporting its best-ever performance at Key Stage 5.
The results show improvements across every key measure compared to 2024, with an average grade of C+ and an average point score of 32.34 per student. The school’s Value Added score of +0.30 also indicates that Bedford Academy students made more progress on average than students nationally.
This year:
- 43.4% of students achieved grades A–B
- 98.3% of students achieved grades A–E
Headteacher Chris Deller said the results reflect the school’s culture of high expectations and strong academic support.
“We are incredibly proud of our students, who have worked with resilience and determination throughout their studies,” he said. “These results reflect not only their hard work but also the outstanding support from our dedicated staff team.”
The school said it looks forward to welcoming a new cohort of sixth formers in September and building on this year’s success.
Kimberley STEM College
Students and staff at Kimberley STEM College are celebrating the school’s best-ever set of A-level results outside of the pandemic years, with more students than ever achieving top grades.
The college says a greater number of students secured A*, A and B grades this year, with many now heading off to top universities, including Oxbridge, medical schools, and leading Russell Group institutions.
Subjects such as medicine and dentistry were among those chosen by students for the next stage of their education.
A spokesperson for the college thanked teaching staff for their commitment and support throughout the year and said: “We are incredibly proud of all our students and wish them every success as they take their next steps.”
Bedford School
Students at Bedford School are celebrating another year of outstanding A-level and IB results, with more than 50% of all grades awarded at A* or A and 85% at A* to B.
The results will see the majority of this year’s leavers heading to top UK and international universities to study a wide range of subjects, including medicine, engineering, physics, economics, philosophy and business.
Several students have also secured competitive degree apprenticeships with global companies, including PWC and L’Oréal.
Head Master James Hodgson said: “I am thrilled for this excellent group of boys, who have not only worked hard in the classroom but have taken full advantage of all the extraordinary co-curricular and sporting opportunities here.
They leave as articulate, well-rounded, responsible, and kind young men. We are proud of every one of them.”
All nine students who applied for medicine secured their places. International destinations include the University of Michigan, Melbourne University, Universidad de Navarra and McGill University in Montreal.
Among this year’s top performers:
- Fred Dickson achieved an exceptional 44 points in the International Baccalaureate, placing him in the top 1–2% of students globally. He will study Modern and Medieval Languages at the University of Cambridge.
- Hamish Whiteman secured A*, A*, A* in Mathematics, English and Religious Education and will also be heading to Cambridge to study Philosophy. He praised the “really good” teaching and said interesting texts helped him succeed in English, his most challenging subject.
- Fergus Tongue earned four A*s in Maths, Further Maths, Geography and Economics and will study Maths at Durham University after taking a gap year to travel and recover from back surgery. He credited his success to the support of teaching staff, including special access arrangements during exams.
- Christopher Bonnington also achieved four A*s and will study Astrophysics at the University of Birmingham. He shared how support from the school’s SEND team helped him manage the challenges of autism, praising teachers for creating tailored strategies that helped him succeed. His mother said the school’s support gave him the tools to find his own revision style and thrive.
Students have also earned places in fields including hospitality, with one student heading to Hotelschool The Hague to study Hotel Hospitality.
Bedford School’s results continue a strong tradition of academic and personal achievement, with students praised for their hard work, determination, and the supportive learning environment that helped them to succeed.
Wixams Academy
Wixams Academy is celebrating a strong set of A-level results from its second Year 13 cohort, with students securing places at leading universities, apprenticeships, and international opportunities.
Compared to 2024, results have improved significantly, with two-thirds of students gaining a place at their first-choice university. In total, 73% of the cohort are heading to university and 27% into apprenticeships, employment or voluntary work, including placements overseas.
University destinations include Brunel (English Literature), Durham (Criminology), Essex (Law), Loughborough (Sport and Psychology), Sussex (Maths), and the University of East Anglia (Geology). Others have opted to stay local, studying a broad range of subjects at the Universities of Hertfordshire, Northampton and Bedfordshire.
Several students have secured apprenticeships, including in logistics with national firm Kite, while others are entering careers in graphic design, heating engineering, events management, and hospitality.
A number of students are also heading abroad – including to Central Europe for university study, and to Africa and America for volunteering placements.
Headteacher Nathaniel Wilson praised the students’ achievements, “It’s very rewarding to see our students receiving their results. I’m pleased they are well-prepared to take their next steps, whether that’s heading to university, starting apprenticeships or entering the workforce. Congratulations to all!”
The school highlighted notable improvements in performance, particularly among students who faced personal challenges. Some of these students are now progressing to study subjects such as Criminology, English Literature and Sociology at degree level.
Enhancements to the Sixth Form over the past year, including supervised study sessions, increased lesson hours and additional tuition support, have helped drive progress. The school says these changes are part of a long-term ambition to create one of the top state school Sixth Forms in Bedford.
Hywel Jones, Director of Secondary Education at the Knowledge Schools Trust, said: “We are pleased to see steady improvements in our Sixth Form and look forward to redoubling our efforts to create the best state school Sixth Form in the local Bedford community.”
