The lifesaving charity, Magpas Air Ambulance, has welcomed a recruit in the form of their new Mascot, and the charity is looking for help in choosing a name for it.
The air ambulance charity is calling on Bedfordians to come up with their name suggestions for a furry teddy bear uniformed in the style of their inspirational medical crews.
Magpas brings pre-hospital emergency care, whether by air or land, performing treatments that are usually only available in a hospital across the region.
They’re dispatched by the East of England and the East Midlands Ambulance Service Trusts, which care for a population of over 10 million.
The service operates 24/7 and, on average, answers five calls for help a day, treating around 900 patients in life-threatening emergencies every year. Last year, the critical service responded to 1,872 emergency calls across the region.
“Our lifesaving work is only possible thanks to support from our incredible community”, said Director of Income and Engagement Lucy Chapman.
“So it’s only right that you help name the bear who will inspire the next generation of supporters.”
They add that their mascot is a “fundamental part of our work in local communities, joining us at events and bringing joy and smiles to those who support us”.
The winning name will be on the mascot’s badge wherever they go, representing the lifesaving charity, so Lucy says “they’re keen to make sure they’re getting the name right is fundamental”.

As well as the satisfaction of submitting the chosen name, the winner will also be invited for a meet and greet with the mascot and the chance to check out Magpas Air Ambulance’s lifesaving fleet at their headquarters.
Entries close on Friday, 15 August 2025. The winning name will be announced in September, chosen by Magpas doctors, paramedics and the aviation team.
