Bedford is attracting even more first-time buyers thanks to local amenities, excellent night life, and the Government’s Help to Buy Scheme.
Green spaces, parks, leisure hotspots and improved transport links are just some of the reasons younger, first-time buyers say they’re choosing Bedford over other towns like near-by Milton Keynes.
Isabelle, a 27-year-old English teacher, originally from Milton Keynes, says her relocation to DeMontfort Place in Bedford is an investment for her future, thanks to the Help to Buy scheme: “I did have a Help to Buy ISA… and some help from my parents” said Isabelle, “while I feel extremely lucky to have had some help, if it was not for the Help to Buy scheme there’s no way I would have been able to buy a property”.
The Government’s Help to Buy scheme helps first time buyers have the opportunity to place their foot firmly on the property ladder and, as Isabelle tells us, it can help you find your dream home: “…my apartment is a really high standard and has a gorgeous kitchen. A new build home was perfect for me, I just had to work on the finishing touches to make it feel like mine.”
The area around DeMontfort Place, on the corner of Union Street and Warwick Avenue, has become a popular nightlife spot thanks to the recent reopening of a new-look Foresters Arms and an ever-increasing line-up of world class bands at nearby Esquires.
But if locals do want to go further afield, Midland Road train station is within walking distance and major roads are close by: “You can get into London with direct trains and I often go to the capital and it is close to the motorway so I can go and visit my parents.” Isabelle says.
“The great thing here is that I have a better work life balance too, I have cut my commute by half an hour each side. It’s so refreshing to come home to my own place, and my own things”.
