While 2020 was a tough year for a lot of people, it was even more so for a 24-year old goalkeeper from Great Denham, who had to undergo extensive spinal surgery.
Despite this, Ryan Moulding was told he would be able to play football again and with grassroots football returning to Bedford pitches as restrictions were lifted, so did Ryan.
However, half way through a match in May, Ryan lost all feeling in his lower body and continuing to play left him with extensive nerve damage, leaving Ryan wheelchair bound for the rest of his life.
The news has been a devastating blow, but with the help of his team mates and sponsors, Lane and Holmes, a charity football match is in the pipeline to raise money.
The funds will be used to adapt Ryan’s home in order for him to adapt to his new lifestyle and make his surroundings easier to live with as he comes to terms with his diagnosis.
Kempston Rovers will host a match between Denham Raptors and Football Flow FC, a team made up of celebrities and ex-professionals organised by former footballer, Dean Hooper.
Football Flow UK was set up to help current and former professionals manage their mental health while in the game and post-retirement, but are branching out to help with all kinds of charity and wellbeing programmes.
The celebrities involved are yet to be confirmed, but the game is confirmed to take place on Sunday 20th June at Kempston Rovers, with all money helping Ryan and his family.
