Bedfordshire Police have said they will have extra officers on duty tonight to keep residents safe and supported and are not currently advising residents or businesses to change their usual routines after reports that fascists may target local areas in and around Bedford.
Reiterating the week’s earlier appeal, a spokesperson for the force has said, “Disinformation has been a huge driver of the appalling violence we have seen across the country, and we know a lot of those taking part are doing so in direct response to what they’ve read online.
“Please refrain from sharing these ‘event’ details in any way as it may only serve to increase fear and tension.”
Following reports earlier this week, there have been messages of solidarity from almost all areas of Bedford Borough and beyond.

Yesterday, over 40 organisations, including those from a variety of faith groups, educational organisations, community groups, businesses and charities signed a statement of solidarity led by Islam Bedford.

Now, Bedfordshire Police say they are not at present advising residents or businesses to change their usual routines.
“Our policing teams will be spread across key locations across the county and are well-prepared to respond to any unrest. Bedfordshire is a safe multicultural county and we and all our communities reject those who seek to divide and intimidate.
“We will not tolerate any violence or disorder. Anyone taking part in, or inciting, this kind of behaviour will be dealt with swiftly and robustly,” added the spokesperson.
