The University of Bedfordshire and Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have formed a partnership aimed at driving advancements in education, healthcare, and community engagement across the region.
Building on a long-standing relationship, the collaboration aims to support the recruitment and development of a highly skilled and diverse healthcare workforce while also delivering impactful research and outreach initiatives that benefit the broader community.
Through new and expanded joint programmes, students, particularly from the University’s Faculty of Health & Social Sciences, will gain practical experience working alongside NHS professionals through clinical placements, internships and health-focused community projects.
The partnership will also explore opportunities in research and innovation to improve local healthcare outcomes.
Vice chancellor professor Rebecca Bunting said: “This collaboration will not only enhance the learning experience for our students but also contribute to the development of a highly skilled workforce that meets the evolving needs of the healthcare sector.

The partnership also extends to joint community engagement activities, including health awareness campaigns, sustainability projects, and initiatives to increase access to healthcare through local outreach.
Additionally, the two institutions will explore shared estate opportunities and commercial ventures to support long-term regional growth.

The University currently serves around 20,000 students, with a significant proportion being mature learners, care leavers, and students from ethnically diverse backgrounds who are underrepresented in higher education.
Beyond education and research, the partnership is dedicated to driving positive change across local communities.
From health awareness campaigns and sustainability projects to outreach programmes designed to increase public access to healthcare, the partnership will help make meaningful change to communities across the region.
