With the summer holidays just around the corner, and families up and down the land donning their thinking caps for things to do, the Higgins in Bedford is front of the queue with a vibrant programme of creative workshops, suitable for all ages.
From neon painting and kaleidoscopes, to Roman crafts and animal encounters, the museum and art galleries are offering a unique blend of art, science, and history to keep young minds curious and entertained throughout the holidays.
For the town’s young artists, opportunities to create glowing neon paintings, colourful sun catchers, rainbows in tubes, and even create artwork from old postage stamps are aplenty, led by local artists and experts who will also be getting stuck in.
Maybe history is your cup of tea? There’s also chances to step back in time with archaeology sessions exploring Roman, Anglo-Saxon and Viking times along with engaging sessions on the Second World War, including ‘Meet the Children of World War II’ on 13 August.
For fans of animals and wildlife, Teaching Talons are on hand to introduce some of the world’s more fascinating creatures in their special ‘Animal Encounters’ session on 7 August, with the bearded dragon and custard-crested gecko leading the line up.
This programme is part-funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

Most of the workshops are free, although some may carry an additional fee, but any accompanying adults will not be charged.
