Another party conference season is over, and the message was clear: if you want a country where hard work is rewarded, businesses can thrive, our borders are controlled, and people are safe, the Conservatives are the only party with a plan to deliver it.

Kemi Badenoch was honest with people that we have a job to do. The Conservative Party needs to rebuild trust with the British people.

We cannot take anyone’s support for granted, and we certainly cannot expect people to forget the mistakes of recent years.

We are a different party now, but we still have lots of trust to rebuild.

In Mid Bedfordshire, people work hard. They run small businesses, employ people, work on our farms, and keep our communities going.

And they just want a Government that will create the right conditions and then get out of their way so they can get on and do well for themselves and their families.

That means lower taxes, removing unnecessary regulation and more opportunities for young people to get into work and build a future for themselves.

At conference, Kemi announced plans to do just that. Plans to halve Employer National Insurance for those aged 21 to 24, to simplify tax codes and reduce red tape.

But getting Britain working is only part of the challenge. We also need to make Britain safe.

Ukraine & Russia

The world has become a much more dangerous place. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the Iran crisis have shown just how volatile the world is at the moment.

We cannot afford to be complacent.

That is why I welcome the commitment to build the Britannia Shield – an integrated missile defence system designed to protect Britain’s from emerging threats.

Defence and jobs were just a few of the big announcements at conference. We also had policies about getting tough on crime, abolishing inheritance tax on family homes and ending the childcare cliff edge.

This is what I want to see from the Conservative Party: serious answers to the serious challenges facing our country.

There is no shortage of work ahead. We must rebuild trust, get the economy moving and show people that politics can deliver for them again.

But that is exactly what the Conservative Party under Kemi Badenoch is setting out to do.

A future built on lower taxes, stronger defence, controlled borders, and the belief that hard work should pay.

That is how we can get Mid Bedfordshire and the whole of Britain working again.
