This year’s Junior Aquathlon brought together 121 enthusiastic participants, combining a continuous swim and run in Robinson Pool and Bedford Park.
The annual Aquathlon, which this year took place on Sunday, 15 October, aims to foster a love for sports and active lifestyles among children.
There was not only friendly competition but children were also able to challenge themselves within their age category. The event welcomed newcomers and seasoned participants and every child taking part was given a medal.
Trophies were awarded to the top three performers in each category, celebrating their achievements.
Councillor Sarah Gallagher, portfolio holder for leisure and culture, said: “The Bedford Junior Aquathlon continues to inspire and empower our young athletes, fostering a spirit of healthy competition and camaraderie.
“It is heartening to see 121 children, including 29 Year 6 students, take on this challenge with such enthusiasm. We are immensely proud of their dedication and determination.
“The event emphasised that sports are for everyone, not just elite athletes and that giving it a try and having fun is what truly matters.”
Bedford Borough Council confirmed there are two Aquathlon events planned in March and October 2024.
