Wixams sixth form on the cards as schools’ Trust appoints new CEO to oversee growth

The Trust that oversees Wixams Academy and Wixams Tree Primary schools has appointed a new CEO, with the aim of expanding the schools, including the much-anticipated Sixth Form.

Hywel Jones succeeds Alan Evans, Interim CEO at Bedford College Academies Trust (BCAT) and will join in June.

An experienced leader in education, Hywel has overseen the improvement of nine secondary schools and has also worked in the primary sector supporting schools to improve their educational standards.

Hywel was head at the West London Free School, the first Free School in England, where he led the school to become one of the most over-subscribed schools in England and amongst the top-achieving comprehensive state schools in West London.

BCAT chair, Anthony Abrahams, said: “We welcome Hywel as the first full-time CEO of BCAT.

“Hywel joins at an exciting time for the Trust, Wixams Tree Primary and the Academy. Both schools are about to expand and develop substantially and Hywel stood out as the ideal candidate to meet these challenges and to lead the Trust, staff and students into the future.”

Hywel said: “I am looking forward to working with school leaders, teachers, parents and trustees to take the schools forward for the local community.”
