Bedfordians at both ends of the pitch have given us their predictions for tonight’s Euro 2020 final. So, will it be “Forza Italia” or “Come on, England”?
From bakers to baristas, fishmongers to restauranteurs, it’s no surprise that both English and Italian fans are loyal to their home side, with score predictions ranging anywhere between 1-0 to Italy and 4-0 to England.
“I reckon Kane is gonna make two goals, 2-0 to England,” says Lee at Lingers Butchers. Whereas Mas at Alexander Barbers in St. Cuthbert’s Arcade believes it’ll be a 2-0 win to Italy.
Some were a bit more diplomatic, however.
Russell Beard of Cooper Beard Estate Agents told us “We sell houses for both Italian and English clients so I hope it’s a draw I’m going to sit on the fence.”
Taste Bedford’s Anne Harnan, who says she’s not really a football fan, said she’s just looking forward to celebrations whatever the result.
And some were even well-rehearsed in their loyalty for both sides.
“I’m quite neutral, I’m a 50/50. My parents are Italian but I was born in England,” says Joe Sepede of Castle Deli.
But whether they’re cheering on Chiellini or shouting “come on, Kane” everyone agreed Bedford will be the real winner.
